Bosna Melbourne Cultural and Sporting Society were established in 1978 and joined the Victorian Amateur Soccer League that same year. The Club was situated in Kensington where it stayed for a few years but then moved on to bigger and better things.
In 1982, Bosna Melbourne moved to their home ground of many years to Burnley Oval, Swan Street, Richmond and joined Provisional League 3 (at that time there were 5 Prov. Leagues) and a few years later the VSF restructured the entire league and Bosna Melbourne ended up in Provisional League 3 North.
In 1995 Bosna Melbourne hired The Hungarian Soccer Ground in Wantirna and enjoyed much success there. That year the club had a Promotional play off series where they met Whittlesea United in the finals and won, this ensured that Bosna Melbourne was promoted into Provisional League 2. In 1996 the club moved to Mayer Park in Northcote, which is where Bosna Melbourne stayed until 2004.
Up until this day the Club has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks, these achievements have been mainly due to the unswerving devotion of the Players (both past and present) and the multitude of volunteers that have helped run the club. The club also has a fanatic supporter base that bolsters the team’s performance to many wins and consoles them in gallant defeat. In the previous years, the club has gone from strength to strength from Provisional 1 in 1997 to State 3 in 1998 and Bosna Melbourne s greatest success has been the move to State 2 NW Region in the year 2000. Since inclusion to State League 2 in 2000, Bosna Melbourne has struggled to maintain its impressive form. Seasons 2001 and 2002 saw Bosna Melbourne narrowly avoiding relegation, but they finally succumbed in dismal 2003 which saw this proud club relegated for the first time in their history.
Year 2004 has signalled generational change with younger, more enthusiastic committee taking over. Their aim is to establish Bosna Melbourne as a major Bosnian sporting and social society in Australia. Committee’s first goal was to relocate their facilities to the West, closer to where majority of Bosnians live in Melbourne. After a lot of hard work and lobbying, Bosna Melbourne now calls a beautiful sports complex at Skinner Reserve its home. On the back of stellar season in 2005, Bosna Melbourne returned to State League 2, where they currently compete. Season 2007 looks to be a great year.
